Way to Attach Quilting Foot On A Sewing machine?

If you love making quilts, then you already know how much fun it can be to sew together colorful fabrics into beautiful masterpieces.

Quilting is a wonderful hobby because it allows you to express yourself creatively while creating something useful at the same time.

However, if you’ve never tried to sew anything before, then you might wonder how you should set up your sewing machine.

You need to make sure your sewing machine has a quilting foot! This is usually found on a longer foot pedal, and differs from the regular foot pedal that you use for sewing.

The quilting foot is a foot that is used to quilt your fabric.

In this article, we’ll talk about how to properly use a sewing machine and how to get started.

What is Quilting foot?

Quilting foot is a tool that helps you match up patterns in your fabric to those in your design. The name itself comes from the English word “to match”, which describes matching up different pattern.

If you think of sewing as a process of creation, you’re not alone. The US based design firm Quilting Foot  designs and manufactures the industry’s first sewing foot for sewing machines, whose name is a combination of the words, “Quilt” and “Sewing”.

The design of this foot is a unique innovation that enables hand sewing of fabrics as they lay flat on the fabric, instead of in a normal stitch.

What does a quilting foot do on a sewing machine?

Quilting, or piecing together fabrics to create a quilt, is a fascinating, creative, and sometimes challenging hobby. The quilting foot is one of the most important accessories that you can add to your sewing machine.

The quilting foot is placed on the fabric guide of the sewing machine, and moves the fabric as the needle moves. It is made of plastic, and is used for quilting, free motion embroidery, and general sewing.

When you sew, using a quilting foot is your best friend. These tiny metal circles (or liners) are used to spread out the pressure your presser foot puts on your fabric, so the fabric doesn’t split on the feed dogs.

They’re also used to guide the needle through the fabric during sewing.

Guide to put Quilting Foot on a Sewing machine

Quilting is the art of sewing intricate designs into your fabric, and it dates back to the earliest days of sewing.

So now let’s see some tips on how to put quilting foot on the sewing machine:

Guide #1:

  • To put a quilting foot on a sewing machine, begin by setting the machine to the highest or second-highest setting.
  • Then, with the needle in the up position, hold the quilting foot against the needle until it clicks into place.

Guide #2:

  • To attach the quilting foot to a sewing machine, place the presser foot on the machine.
  • Use the screw to adjust the height of the presser foot so that the quilting foot is raised to the right height.
  • You may need to remove the regular presser foot from the machine. Tighten the screw so that the presser foot is secure.

Guide #3:

  • Make sure your machine has a quilter foot installed. You will find them under the foot plate along with other feet like zipper foot, etc.
  • If your machine does not have any such thing, then install an extension table onto the base of your machine.
  • Open your machine cover by lifting the tab located next to the bobbin case. Remove the spool pin, metallic thread tension knob, and needle clamp. Then remove the top part of the machine head.
  • Insert the quilting foot between the two parts of the machine head, and place it over the lower edge of the machine bed.
  • Push down firmly until it clicks securely. When done correctly, there should be no play at all.
  • Place the position of needle into position on the left side of the machine head. Adjust the height of the needle position according to the thickness of the material being sewn.
  • Next adjust the depth of the needle hole. To do this, turn the change wheel clockwise or counterclockwise depending upon whether you want more or less penetration.
  • Finally, tighten the screw to secure the setting.

Can you machine quilt with a regular foot?

Yes! Although many people think they cannot use their regular sewing machines for quilting because they don’t have a special “quilting foot” attached to the machine, but actually you can make beautiful handmade quilts without having a separate foot.

Instead, just follow these simple steps:

Step 1 – Attach a standard sewing machine foot to your machine. This will allow you to stitch straight lines while working on quilting projects.

Step 2 – Use a ruler or template to draw guidelines across each section of the project before stitching. Make sure you leave enough room around the edges for seam allowances.

Step 3 – Start straight stitch with a light hand movement. Keep the stitches small and even, especially when starting new rows. Stitch slowly and steadily.

Note: It might take a little practice to get used to using a different type of motion foot. But once you make progress, you’ll quickly become comfortable switching back and forth between regular sewing and quilting.

What sewing machine foot should I use for quilting?

A walking foot is a sewing machine attachment used to feed multiple layers of fabric through the machine at the same time. It is ideal for quilting.

A walking foot is an attachment that allows your machine to sew through multiple layers of fabric without the layers shifting or bunching. This attachment is especially useful when sewing thick fabrics or multiple layers of fabric.

To use for quilting, you can also use a Zipper foot. It has a special guide that makes it easier to sew straight lines and curves and is used to sew long stitches.

Do I need to use a walking foot when quilting?

Yes, a walking foot is an attachment that comes on the bottom of your sewing machine and allows you to sew multiple layers of fabric together.

When stitching quilting patterns, it is essential to understand the use of a walking foot.

Using a walking foot, helps quilters sew Pattern Over applique by simply rotating the fabric, without lifting the presser foot holder.

The main advantage of having a walking foot over a standard foot is that it allows you to sew patterns and prints that stitch out from the edge more easily.

If you are making quilts, then using a walking foot is a must. Besides quilting, a good walking foot can also come in handy in the machine quilting world.

Can I put a free motion quilting foot on my machine?

The Free-Motion Quilting method allows you to create designs and patterns in the type of fabric design as you work. The FMQ process involves moving the feed dogs up and down during operation, which causes the blade carriage to move forward and backward.

This produces a zigzag line pattern similar to what you would see if you were doing embroidery. There are several types of FMQ methods available today; some require additional attachments and others come built right into the machine.

Some machines include a built-in design program called “Automatic Embroidery” that creates designs automatically based on settings provided within the foot control panel.

Some models offer an advanced feature known as “Auto-Quarter Turn.” With this function enabled, the machine turns the entire fabric 90 degrees after every pass through the standard presser foot so that the next row of stitching falls onto a previously stitched area of the same piece of fabric.
